HP LaserJet Professional P1606dn with Linux

Real simple. Tell the Linux box that the printer is a Generic PCL Printer attached via JetDirect, give it the IP address, and whatever you do, don't let the printer config tools go surfing the web for warez—you don't need them. Keep it old school and it works fine. While everyone else on the network is searching for and installing drivers, you will be printing.

Thank you!!! This also worked in snow leopard, when nothing else would due to poorly coded samba implementation.

Thank you very much my friend ... I'm from Mexico and was looking for how to configure that printer on my kubuntu 11.04. Your information really helped me and I agree with your comment ... I'm already printing while others are still wanted the HP driver.
