Design, manage, and report on collaborative research projects with academic, open source, and industry innovators, with a focus on Mozilla's browser privacy changes and their impact on next-generation web advertising and responsible data-driven marketing.

2014 - 2016: Technical Marketing Manager, ScyllaDB

Led marketing content, technology, and event presence for the successful launch of a web-scale NoSQL database by a 23-person startup with a presence in 11 countries. Managed, edited and wrote marketing content from product white papers to PR pitches.

2011 - 2014: Technical Marketing Manager, Perforce Software

Developed demo content and marketing materials including presentations and articles. Managed beta programs. Developed native Linux packages for Enterprise Version Management products.

2010 - 2011: Backend lead, TeamPatent.com

Led the development and deployment of a new back end for a web-based, collaborative, multimedia technical document editor. Used both SQL and NoSQL storage, and deployed to Amazon Web Services. Developed and administered automated testing and continuous deployment.

2008 - 2009: Conference Chair, Open Source World

Led program committee for the Bay Area Linux and open source event. Prospected and secured speakers and topics, and advised show management on schedule, organization, and ecosystem participation.

2006 - 2008: Site Editor, LinuxWorld.com

Wrote, edited, and assigned news and technical content for a frequently updated major media site covering Linux and open source. Fostered extensive network of open source community contacts worldwide.

2005 - 2006: Director, Technical Marketing, SpikeSource

Developed and edited content for an open source stack vendor. Participated in the company's appearances at open source events including the Zend PHP Conference and Expo and the Open Source Business Conference.

2000 - 2005: Technical Editor → Editor-in-Chief, Linux Journal

Responsible for the editorial content of the leading Linux publication. The Linux Journal team delivered a complete, edited, debugged magazine on time each month. Developed relationships with extensive network of developers for Linux and related technologies. Edited, wrote and solicited articles on security, development tools, hardware, and programming techniques.

1999 - 2000: Professional Service Engineer, VA Linux Systems

As one of the founding Linux consultants in the Professional Services group, worked with customers to deploy and problem-solve Linux systems.

1998 - 1999: Principal, Electric Lichen L.L.C.

Co-founded a Linux International member company, Electric Lichen L.L.C., an Internet development, marketing and consulting firm. Sold firm to VA Linux Systems in 1999. Client projects included the successful release of Informix for Linux and early Linux market research for IBM.

1997: Web Development and Sales, Pacific Digital Interactive

Consultative selling and development of web applications for corporate customers in the Bay Area, including Hitachi, Charles Schwab, and DHL. Bundled Linux server hardware with on-site content maintenance solutions. Performed web and Linux training for clients.

1994 - 1997: Webmaster, Agdia

Early adopter of production Linux systems for company-wide mail and web presence. Developed all marketing materials and product documentation for an agricultural biotechnology company.
