BTS meets version control?

Martin Pool writes, Because the changesets have universally unique IDs and descriptive metadata we can then ask interesting questions about the patches. Looks like the "interesting questions" he cites are about information that should be in the bug tracking system.

Kristis Makris explains integrating the version control system with the BTS in a Usenix paper on scmbug (manual). There's probably a case for making one package do both tasks. Making people do note-making and record-keeping that machines could do is bad.
