Good news on IT jobs
File this under good news for open source (and good news for other low-budget IT decisions, such as ATA over Ethernet for all but the most demanding storage, and squeaking another year out of existing desktops). Denise Dubie reports, citing a Robert Half Technology survey, that only 6% of CIOs polled plan to cut staff.
With staff constant and budgets down, that puts the squeeze on equipment and services. Your vendor sales rep will always come back to you with a new proposal when you have a budget again. Your key IT person is a lot harder to get back. The buy/build decision is getting forced toward "build."
