The Realtime Backhoe List

"People who say they don't like advertising are part of the politically correct core who are the original core [of Internet users]. The research that IAB has done says that people do value advertising."

-- Rich LeFurgy, president, Internet Advertising Bureau

"Fuck 'em. How do you raise the bucket on this thing?"

-- RBHL activist

Mission Statement

Just as the Realtime Blackhole List protects you from theft of services by Unsolicited Commercial Email (UCE), the Realtime Backhoe List can protect you from privacy violation and hidden tracking by Internet advertisers.

If you see the occasional "broken image" or "site not found" error when you use the Internet, it simply means that RBHL activists with backhoes are digging up a privacy violator's connection. Please consider making a contribution to support this important work.

Collateral Damage
RBHL activists are not formally trained in the operation of backhoes or any other heavy machinery. At this time, we do not anticipate seeking any such training or certification due to our almost unanimous disillusionment with institutionalized education. We also anticipate the need to excavate in great haste, at night, as an inevitable result of our ability to "think outside the box" when approaching the permitting process.

Each of these factors considered separately would tend to push our anticipated accident rate upward. Together, they result in a a large but acceptable property damage risk in the vicinity of privacy-violating companies and their colocation facilities. We therefore advise users to:

  • Refrain from parking on streets near abusers, especially on top of any manhole cover that seems related to telecommunications.
  • Colocate Internet servers in facilities that are not shared by abusive companies. Ask your colocation provider to notify you if such a company moves in.
  • If you produce non-advertising web graphics, don't make them in these sizes. People protected by some non-backhoe privacy protection measures won't see them.
  • Naturally, you should never enter into any business arrangement, such as a web advertising contract, with a company that violates user expectations of privacy. Even at times when such a company is not the subject of direct backhoe action, your site will be unavoidably affected. For example, if you carry banner ads served by a privacy violator, any users protected by non-backhoe measures will not see those banners, and you will lose ad impressions.
Remember, safety is everyone's business.

Backhoe Technology in Network Administration
Armored backhoe originally developed for removing land mines; now a promising tool for Internet privacy abuse prevention.

Virtual Backhoe Project: Users affected by Internet privacy abuse are often many miles away from the abusers. With virtual backhoe technology, network professionals will be able to protect users without expensive travel, and without the risk of operating heavy machinery while under the influence of jet lag.

Visibility Analysis Through the Animation of a Backhoe Workcycle: 3D modeling now allows privacy protection engineers to design better backhoes faster.

1-888-DIG-SAFE provides a convenient way for us to check the location of the fiber optic cable serving an abuser. We continue calling until they advise us not to dig in a certain location.

We do not accept "opt-out"
We refuse to opt out of tracking schemes. People won't accept "opt-out" for email spam, and we won't accept it for tracking. And even information that companies promise not to disclose gets sold off anyway. Don't give us an opt-out URL. Give us diesel fuel.
