Hi Wolfgang,

a theoretical examination of the stability of a Chord ring is done in 
"On the Stability of Chord-based P2P Systems", by Andreas 
Binzenhöfer, Dirk Staehle, and Robert Henjes and was presented at 
GLOBECOM 2005 in St. Louis. 
The authors analyze the probabilities for a disconnection of the 
peers in the ring and investigate the corresponding scalability with 
stochastic methods.
