There seem to be at least five ways to identify files: SHA1 of the 
entire file, THEX root hash, MD4 hash of the entire file (ed2k), kzhash, 
and BitTorrent infohash. It seems unlikely that any of these will go 
away, so I guess interoperability will depend on apps supporting all 
five methods, despite the overhead... or we could work on a new standard 
and then everyone would have six methods to support. ;-)
