a bitzi like service might be helpful when resource identifiers were
not shared; you could use the bitzi service to locate other
identifiers given the one you know already. (http://bitzi.com)

but yes, it would be much better to simply pick a common identifier
(i'd highly recommend SHA2-256 or 512 at this point) universally
supported by all networks.
