Ah. Indeed. You're right.

Interestingly, RFC 1122 seems to imply that "all networks in the
Internet currently support an MTU of 576 or greater" and that it is
strongly recommended (but not "RECOMMENDED"); regardless the official
MTU of 68 still stands.
