Dear P2P hackers,

OPeN stands for Open Peer-to-Peer Network.

The OPeN library allows developers to build peer-to-peer applications
with pluggable services and protocols. The OPeN architecture defines
a Connectivity layer, a Core Services layer and an Applications
layer. Applications make use of services, while services make use of
protocols. Both services and protocols follow a generic API which
allows them to be readily reused in a variety of applications.

The goal is to bring together peer-to-peer protocol, service and
application developers while abstracting their implementation and
problem details from each other. This integration allows complex peer-
to-peer applications to be built and promotes interoperability across
different applications.

The distribution includes two protocols, one protocol is based on the
Chord algorithm and the other protocol is a connection caching
protocol called Floc. The distribution also includes a data service
for reading and writing data objects.

Information about the Peer-to-Peer Networks and Applications Research
Group is found here:

We have a wiki to collect experience with use of the software:

Please feel free to contribute to the OPeN project. We would be very
happy to assist you to get started.
