[p2p-hackers] Which open protocols support private group sharing/chat?

You can achieve privacy by constructing VPN between trusted parties
first and then using existing protocols for whatever activity you'd
like to have in the group.

Protocol layering carries all the same benefits as a modular design
does in a software. So I would strongly suggest to look for a right
combination of existing (possibly somewhat customized) protocols
rather than at something that has it all under one roof. This way
you can, for example, have Jabber for chat and BitTorrent for file-
sharing.
