Well MySQL did the whole "LGPL->GPL to make more $$" move a
while back. Judging by the backpedalling and quick introduction
of exceptions, I'm not sure I'd qualify it as a "success", but
it did manage to murky the GPL waters around MySQL more and
probably ultimately helped the company to sell more commercial
licenses.
