Actually, see http://lwn.net/Articles/191411/.  It seems that the
distributors are themselves feeling like Cassandras and fearing "alert
fatigue" caused by calling almost every vulnerability exploitable.  So
they are trying to be calmer in the hopes of getting people to pay
attention to the really serious ones.

Which works as long as you don't miss one of the serious ones.
