Systemtap comes from kprobes, which came from dprobes, which has been
around for over 5 years now for Linux.  To claim it's a "derivative
idea" is not being very fair to it :)

And yes, dtrace is probably pretty nice for administrators, which
systemtap isn't really for at all.  But there's no reason that someone
can't enhance it to work just as well, they just have to make the effort
to do so, which is probably lacking...
