[linux-elitists] Linksys router and GPIO or serial port?

"The result is a box you connect to power, to a DSL or cable modem
and MAYBE to your PC (if all you want to be is a service provider
the PC isn't needed) and it automatically attaches itself to an OSPF
mesh network that is self-configuring. In practical terms, this mesh
network, which allows distant clients to reach edge nodes by hopping
through other clients en route"
I'm not clear on what Cringely's talking about.
It sounds like he believes that if enough people get on board and put
these APs around their city, tightly enough, that you'll effectively
blanket the entire city under one umbrella essid.
I suppose the idea is that you keep the same IP address and maintain
connectivity as long as you stay in the mesh?
Also includs some rambling about a VoIP network-marketing model.
