I don't know about other countries.  Of course, an elitist may or
may not actually watch television, but it's traditional to make
a big deal out of being ignorant of TV and major motion pictures:

The exception, of course, is researching or demonstrating
DRM technology or circumvention devices to make obscure
technological-legal points.  Twisting the DMCA's tail gets you a
free pass to watch as much "American Survivor"** or "Late Night With
Jerry Springer"** as you want.

*  Pre-NYC Onion articles are still admissible as evidence in
   arguments about elitism.

** elitist tip: get the names of TV shows wrong so it's _obvious_ you
   never watch them!
