I trace this to:

    /usr/lib/mozilla/defaults/pref/unix.js

...for Debian, YMMV.  No max sizes.  In fact, the settings Don's posted
aren't found here.  Interesting.  But not good.

Though, for other settings, poke around in the same directory.
