Yeah it was big expensive and difficult but at each data processing
site they had a machine with enough disk space to recover the largest
database at that site. I forget the cycle but they would literally
restore onto this machine, and then bring up the database up and put a
scripted test load against it. 

24x7 this machine would wipe its disks, restore a database onto
it then run a test script against the database.
