What the whoozit! Who was the IDIOT who decided to put the decision on
the future of music into Don's hands?!? We're all screwed!
I anticipate that in the future, artists will re-explore and
re-innovate the entire idea of what music is. In direct response to
the power of the global world-wide Internet, music makers will try to
find expressions of their art that cannot be digitized and
redistributed by pimply, lawless suburban teenagers named "DrDeath3548."
For example, music in the year 2050 might not be sounds at all, but an
arrangement of miles-long wooden blocks, or the failure to appear in
court for a traffic violation. Alternately, "musicians" (as they will
be known) might move away from sonic waves and instead bombard their
"listeners" with beautifully arranged gamma rays in various
frequencies and timbres. Talk about audience-hostile art!
You are free to steal my ideas and present them as your own at the
conference, Don. Also, you can use this line at the panel: "I believe
that *children* are the future." I made that up, but now everybody
uses it so I don't know why you can't, too.
